George Washington Carver was an intelligent man. He was born during the end of the Civil War. He and his mother were stolen away from their owners by southerner raiders. George was returned back to the Carvers by their neighbor. unfortunately it was only George who was returned home, his mother was lost and the Carver had no clue of where she could be. George and his brother were then basically adopted by the Carvers. Jim worked with Moses Carver out side doing work with him. George on the other hand was a sickly child, because of this he stayed inside with his adopted mother, Susan Carver. They would clean around the cabin, tend to the garden, and clean the dishes. Though George as soon as he helped Susan in the garden he fell in love with Plant Science.
George grew older and was helping farmers in the south with their crop cycles. He told them on how they should you soil recovering plants such as pea nuts, and sweat potatoes. This worked well, especially since the cotton and tobacco crops they grew constantly would take the nutrients out of the soil. George then went to study in Tuskegee university. Founded by Booker T. Washington. George studied and was an excellent student. He graduated from Tuskegee and then went on to work with them.
George Washington Carver came up with thousands of products from plants ranging from peas to sweat potatoes. He also created a massage out of pea nut oils which helped patients paralyzed by Polio. People would come from thousands of miles away to see his medicine work. At one point in his life he had to go to an art institute and study, since there wasn't a place without segregation that he could go to to study Botany. Here he studied multiple art techniques. He also made a lot of inventions to do with art. But out of all the inventions he made he only patented three of them. He told us that the reason behind this was because all his ideas came from god, and why should he sell the ideas he himself did not make.
During the time George worked as Tuskegee, other universities asked him if he would want to join their work force, he declined all of them. He told them he wanted to work with his own countrymen and not betray them. Some of the job opportunities he rejected were $100,000 salaries, which would be a million dollars in our modern day. He lated died in 1896, President Franklin D. Roosevelt commemorated a monument for him in Grove Missouri, around the area George was raised in. George was buried next to the Tuskegee University founder, Booker T. Washington. George Washington Carver was a unique guy, from all the things he has done from his work with botany, all the way down to when he helped people out in all the ways he could.
